Blood-pressure testing

A free, private blood-pressure check with your pharmacy team.

What to expect

Blood pressure measures how strongly blood presses against the walls of your arteries as it's pumped around your body by your heart, indicating how much work your heart needs to do. Normal blood pressure is 120/80mmHg, though it can rise or fall depending on age, diet, heart health, emotions, activity, medication, smoking and caffeine intake.

High blood pressure (hypertension) means readings consistently measuring 140/90mmHg or higher on separate occasions. It usually has no symptoms — checking is the only way to know. Left untreated, it can lead to serious conditions including stroke and heart attack, but once detected it can be managed with lifestyle changes and, if needed, medication.

At any of our pharmacies, a member of the team can check your blood pressure for free in our private consultation room, and talk you through the results — including whether it's worth speaking to your pharmacist or doctor about.

It's a quick, painless process. If you're coming in for a check, we'd recommend wearing a short-sleeved top so we can access your arm easily for an accurate reading.
