Foróige with the support of Blessington and District Forum is delighted to become an anchor tenant in a new dedicated youth space in Blessington Town Centre, kindly donated by McGreals Pharmacy Group.

Foróige is a national youth development organisation whose purpose is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and the development of society. Foróige provides a range of youth work services in Wicklow, both targeted and services open to all young people.

There will be 5 professional Youth Workers from the WAY Youth Diversion Project based full time in the new youth space in Blessington. Youth Diversion projects are community based multi-agency initiatives which primarily seek to divert young people involved or at risk of becoming involved in criminal/anti-social behaviour away from the criminal justice system by providing suitable activities to facilitate personal development, promote civic responsibility and improve long-term employability prospects.

From the base in Blessington the youth workers will reach out to provide a service throughout West Wicklow. The youth workers based in Blessington will be:

  • One Senior Youth Officer to co-ordinate the WAY project
  • Two Youth Justice worker to work with young people aged 12 to 17 years who are at risk of or involved in offending behaviour
  • One Early Intervention Worker who will provide supports to young people aged 8 to 11 years who are at risk of involvement in anti-social behaviour
  • One Family Support Worker who will engage with the parents and caregivers of young

people at risk

It is Foróiges ambition that the Blessington town centre premises will become a vibrant hub of youth activity, where all young people will be welcome. The new space will allow for the development of a range of additional supports for the young people of West Wicklow.

Kilian McGreal of McGreals Pharmacy Group officially handed over the keys alongside McGreals Property Manager Eamonn Elliot, Councillor Jason Mulhall, Blessington and District Forum representatives, Carmel Cashin and Andra Coogan Johnston to Foróiges regional  Manager Bernie Meally and Paul Mooney.

“We are truly honoured to be involved in the development of this youth centre, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this facility will have on the lives of young people in Blessington.”
